Flight to Moron

Today we will catch morning flight to Moron, province centre of Khovsgol region. After an hour and half flight at Moron airport you will be picked up by our team and drive north to our fishing spot Alag Tseel River, situated in Darkhad Valley and get settled comfortably in your camp.

The Darkhad Valley, located northwest of Khovsgol Lake is situated between the Ulaan Taiga and Khoridol Saridag mountain ranges. It is at an altitude of 1600 m above sea level and covers an area of 4300 km².

The valley is rich in lakes and rivers, the biggest of which are Tsagaan Lake and Shishged River, respectively. The area is famous for its natural beauty, but relatively remote and inaccessible even by Mongolian standards. The remote & wild region is home to Mongolian minor ethnic group known as Tsaatan or Dukha, one of the last remaining reindeer herders of the world. Their unique way of life is centred and structured around reindeer and guided by Shamanism, ancestral spiritual practice based on nature worship. During your stay in the region we will have a chance to visit Tsaatan settlement and discover their life and the influence of Shamanism on their daily life.

Fishing in Alag Tseel River

We will spend a day fishing by the river, surrounded by impressive snowy peaks. Spanning 4000m, this valley is a paradise for bird watchers because of the number of lakes (more than 300). The abundance of birds: ducks; geese; swans; cranes; curlews; heron; snipe; and many other birds will increase your pleasure while you fish there. This small and slow flowing river is also rich in graylings, lenoks, as well as surprisingly large taimen. It is ideally suited for fly-fishing, and the views are incredible.

Fishing in Alag Tseel River

Fishing in Tengis River

Today, we will reach the confluence of the Shishged and Tengis rivers. We will base our camp next to a good fishing spot.

The Tengis River is a splendid rock-studded mountain river, where lenok, grayling and, in the lower section, surprisingly large taimen are plentiful. It is ideally suited for fly-fishing. We will take three days to enjoy the tranquillity of fishing the lower stages of the Tengis River.

Drive to Delger Moron River and Fishing

Leaving in the early morning, we will have a long driving day to reach (9 hours) Delger moron River, where we will camp in a picturesque spot on its bank, close to Moron. Next day we will spend the day fishing and drive late afternoon to Moron, the province town to catch our flight next day.

Flight back to Ulaanbaatar

Today we fly back to Ulaanbaatar. You may enjoy the free late afternoon to catch up all the places you haven’t visited yet. You might as well check the beautiful cultural show enjoy the colourful and rhythmic Mongolian dance, throat singing & admire the contortionists.
